Slow Cooker Recipes Minced Beef Uk
My slow cooker mince beef and onions recipe is definitely my most cooked recipe and I only just realised that I'd never shared it with you before – how odd is that? I thought I'd put that right today…
Slow cooker mince beef and onions can be made into so many different meals – you can serve it with a jacket potato or some veg, with Yorkshire puddings, dumplings or roasties or make it into a pie with pastry or mash as a topping.
It freezes so well that it's a perfect meal to batch cook and it's so easy to make that you can easily just throw it all in the slow cooker on a morning before work and come home to a gorgeous home cooked meal.
Look at all the different ways you can serve slow cooker minced beef and dumplings!
Topped your Minced Beef and Onions with mash and cheese and turn it into a cottage pie…
Minced Beef and Onions tastes amazing served with homemade dumplings…
Minced Beef and Onions goes great in a pie made with some homemade or ready made shortcrust pastry…
Minced Beef and Onions is even perfect as a jacket potato topper – my teen has it with sweetcorn too but I like a good handful of grated cheese under the mince on mine…
This recipe isn't a fancy recipe, it doesn't look all that pretty and it's certainly not one of those recipes that are filled with veg and healthy goodness (although you absolutely can add them in if you want to) but it's a great base for meals – you can serve with all the veg you want but as a quick and easy base, it's just perfect for us.
Ingredients
- 500g pack of lean minced beef
- 1 onion chopped (or a handful and a half of frozen chopped onion)
- 1/2 carrot chopped into small pieces( optional)
- A handful of peas {again optional)
- 2 stock cubes
- Gravy granules to thicken
Instructions
- Add the minced beef to the slow cooker along with the onion and the carrot if you're using it.
- Crumble the stock cubes over the top.
- Pour over enough boiling water to cover the mix. The more water you add at this point, the more gravy you'll end up with at the end so it's up to you really.
- Give it a good stir, put the lid on and cook for 5-6 hours.
- Just before you serve it, sprinkle in enough gravy granules to thicken the gravy to how you like it.
Notes
This recipe for minced beef and onions is amazing to batch cook and freeze a portion and whenever I do that, I reheat it in the oven and add some dumplings into the mix after it's been in for about twenty minutes. The dumpling recipe I use is 50g suet and 100g self raising flour per six medium sized dumplings.
This recipe for slow cooker minced beef and onions also freezes amazingly well so I always make a double portion and freeze some for next time. In fact, it's so easy that if ever I see any mince in the reduced price section, I just buy it and make it up into this recipe for the freezer.
It's super simple to go from freezer to table with this – just defrost the mince in the fridge overnight the night before you want to serve it and then heat it back up in the oven (I often just use the Instant Pot) at tea time and it's good to go. I add my dumplings at this stage too if I'm making mince and dumplings because I like them crispy. You can absolutely add them when you're cooking in the slow cooker though if you prefer and they do freeze really well if you have any leftover.
